Erik ten Hag expects that Hakim Ziyech will be available to play in Sunday’s top game against PSV. The forward got injured two weeks ago during the game against AZ, and was unable to play for Morocco during the interland period. But he completed Friday’s training with the team.
“It looks optimistic”, said Ten Hag about Ziyech during the press conference. “He participated in the group training for the first time, everything is 100 per cent. Now we need to wait and see how he reacts.” Hassane Bandé and Carel Eiting are also out of the rotation; otherwise, everyone is fit.
Battling on 3 fronts
Ajax is still in the race for three prizes: the national title, the cup, and the Champions League. “That’s what you want, of course: that at the start of April, you’re still in the running on all fronts”, said Ten Hag. “For the competition, it’s very important that we win on Sunday. If we lose, it will be tough in terms of the title. But we’re assuming that we’re going to win. PSV can play a varied game, and apply pressure in many ways. We need to have answers for that.”
Returned in good shape from interland break
The coach saw his players return in good shape from the interland break. “The results were erratic, but everyone returned full of energy. I think the best was David Neres’ debut with Brazil. He had half an hour, and he was so outstanding: amazing.”
Prior to the interland break, Ajax lost at AZ. “We discussed that at length”, said Ten Hag. “You can have an off-game, but you still need to make sure that you win. The players know this too. We shouldn’t look back too much; we should focus on Sunday.”
