Klaassen left Ajax in the summer of 2023 after 321 official matches with the first team. He scored 93 goals and gave 50 assists. The midfielder made this numbers in two periods at Ajax. He debuted on November 22, 2011 and left for Everton in 2017. Via the English and Werder Bremen, Klaassen returned in 202. At Ajax, he won the Eredivisie five times, the Dutch Cup, and the Johan Cruijff Shield once.
In Milan, the former Ajax player has settled with his girlfriend. "It was unexpected, but we were enthusiastic from the start", Klaassen says about his transfer to Internazionale. "It's a gorgeous city and a great club in a good league. I was open to an adventure in a different country, but Ajax is Ajax."
With Klaassen and his fiance, Laura, we went into town and discussed how the transfer came to be. "It started last season when I felt Ajax was heading in a different direction. This is when I started thinking about a possible transfer. There were enough other clubs not good enough to leave Ajax for, but I could not pass on Inter."
Klaassen looks back at his second period at Ajax with a positive feeling. "The last year was not that good, but I think I can be happy with two championships and one Dutch Cup in three seasons. The feeling is mostly positive. In the end, Ajax will always be my club, and I will return to it, in whatever role that might be", the true Ajacied decides.
With his transfer to Internazionale, Davy Klaassen bids farewell to Ajax. Days after his last performance in the play-off match against Ludogorets, the midfielder can look back at impressive statistics. With his 321 matches, 93 goals and 50 assists, the born Ajacied has achieved a place in the famous Club of 100.
