Ajax posts big win in Emmen and takes over first place

Ajax easily won their game at FC Emmen on Wednesday evening, 2-5.  The Amsterdam team was in the lead by 0-5 after one hour, but two unnecessary goals were scored against them after that.  Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored the 0-4 goal, his 100th Eredivisie goal for Ajax.

Thanks to this win, Ajax puts pressure on title defender PSV.  The Ajacieds are in first place for at least one day.  The Eindhoven team plays on Thursday evening at home against PEC Zwolle.

Changes to starting eleven: Ziyech on the bench
Coach Erik ten Hag made two changes compared to the team after the 3-1 win against PSV.  Due to Noussair Mazraoui’s suspension, Rasmus Kristensen got his chance on the squad.  Hakim Ziyech started off on the bench and was replaced by Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who was back in the starting line up again for the first time in nine games.

Huntelaar made an immediate impact by giving an assist to Donny van de Beek, who scored the first Amsteram goal, 0-1.  After this, Ajax created few opportunities, and didn’t take a shot on goal until the 35th minute.  David Neres intercepted a poor pass from the Emmen team and sent the ball wide to Lasse Schöne, whose shot unfortunately lacked power.

Nice variation, Blind makes a suble finish
Shortly before the break, the Dane played an important role in the second Amsterdam goal.  A free kick was cleverly sent to the first post by Schöne, after which Daley Blind swiftly scored the 0-2 goal.

Hunter for 100
Ajax came out well in the second half.  After 51 minutes, Dusan Tadic took a free kick on the edge of the box.  The Serbian player sent a hard shot onto the goal of Emmen keeper Kjell Scherpen, who couldn’t control the ball. Neres was alert and ticked the 0-3 goal in easily.  After two months, the time finally came in the 53rd minute.  Huntelaar scored his 100th Eredivisie goal for Ajax: 0-4.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Ajax took the 0-5 lead on a David Neres goal.  Van de Beek made a sharp pass by the second post, and his South American team mate simply shot the ball into the goal.

Loss of focus results in goals against
After the Brazilian’s goal, the Ajacieds suffered a senseless goal against.  Nico Tagliafico played the ball back to Andre Onana, but the ball ended up in his own goal: 1-5.  Arias socored the 2-5 goal for Emmen in the 87th minute.

Substitute Noa Lang came close to scoring his first Eredivisie goal in extra time, but his shot was saved at the goal line by an Emmen player.
