Ajax has reached an agreement with David Neres Campos and Sao Paolo FC for the Brazilian player’s transfer to Amsterdam. The wing forward has signed a contract that takes effect on February 1, 2017, and is valid for four and a half seasons, until June 30, 2021. Ajax has paid a transfer sum of 12 million euro, which, depending on a few variables, could grow to a maximum of 15 million euro.
Neres was born on March 3, 1997, in Sao Paolo, Brazil. He is currently representing his county in the South American U20 Championship in Ecuador. As soon as the tournament is over, Neres will travel to the Netherlands to report to Ajax.
Marc Overmars, director of player policy: “Neres is a player whom we’ve had our eye on for a while. He’s one of the biggest talents in South America, and it’s great that he chose Ajax. He’s a right winger who can also play on the left flank, which is what we need. He’s just 19 and he’ll need to adjust to being here, but I believe that we’ll already be able to enjoy his talents his year. It’s a known fact that we’re tight in terms of wingers and we have many important games coming up. That’s why I’m happy that he’ll be in Amsterdam soon, and we don’t have to wait until the summer.”
