Jordan Henderson is anticipating a challenging evening for Ajax on Thursday against FC RFS. "Anderlecht and Galatasaray are strong teams. If they managed to take points at home against them, you know it's going to be tough there," the Englishman stated. "Hopefully, we can achieve a good result."
Ajax also won their second competition match in the second half of the season on Sunday. Francesco Farioli's team beat Heerenveen 2-0 away, with goals from Josip Šutalo and Chuba Akpom. That victory brings Ajax to within just one point of top of the league PSV.
Chuba Akpom couldn't help but smile when he saw his goal against sc Heerenveen on ESPN. The forward had given them a clear lead: 0-2. "A real striker's goal. I had to pull back slightly and try to put as much force into heading it as possible. Yes, I am really pleased with that goal."
Two goals from corners secured a 0-2- victory for Ajax against Heerenveen. Josip Šutalo gave the Amsterdam side the lead after 20 minutes, while Chuba Akpom sealed the win with a late goal.
Ajax, Gaston Avila, and Fortaleza EC have reached an agreement for the defender's loan move to the Brazilian club. The loan deal is effective immediately and will run until the end of this calendar year. The agreement includes a purchase option for Fortaleza EC. The 23-year-old's contract with Ajax runs until 30 June 2028.

Ajax and Naci Ünüvar have mutually agreed to terminate the player's contract in connection with his transfer to FC Twente. The 21-year-old attacker’s contract with Ajax was set to run until June 30 ,2026, but it has been agreed that he will join the club from Enschede with immediate effect.
Ajax let a quarter-final spot in the Cup tournament slip away on Tuesday evening. Ajax lost by 2-0 to AZ in Alkmaar.
Francesco Faroili was honest after defeat in Alkmaar (2-0). "AZ deserved to win. We had trouble creating chances. Unfortunately we also hit the post, and we had an opportunity with Kristian Hlynsson, but we lacked force in the six-yard box. I thought we weren't hard enough on defence, and we weren't aggressive enough on the attack."
Ajax was unable to come back against AZ. After the league defeat in December, Ajax got the short end of the stick once again in the Dutch Cup. It ended up 2-0 in Alkmaar.
On Monday. Francesco Farioli was looking ahead to Tuesday evening's cup match against AZ. Bearing in mind the recent league match and the Alkmaar team's current form, he knows what to expect from his team. “We know their strengths and we know where we need to do better.”
Ajax have started 2025 with a victory. At the Johan Cruijff ArenA, RKC were beaten 2-1. At half-time Ajax lead 2-0 through goals from Steven Berghuis and Kenneth Taylor. In the closing stages, RKC reduced the arrears to 2-1, but it didn't go further.
