The Belgian forward has developed into one of the key attacking forces for the Amsterdam side, demonstrating this not only with goals and assists but also through impressive statistics. Godts was the most successful dribbler in the Eredivisie during this regular VriendenLoterij Eredivisie season.
Of his 182 dribbles, 85 were successful, resulting in a success rate of 46 percent. Since Opta began fully analysing the Eredivisie, only four Ajax players have recorded more successful dribbles in a single season: Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Amin Younes and Mohammed Kudus.
Threatening and direct
One of Godts’ main weapons was his ability on the ball. The Belgian recorded the most carries in the Eredivisie this season, actions in which a player moves the ball at least five metres, and also covered the most distance with the ball of any player in the league.
In addition, the forward was a regular starter for almost the entire season. Godts was named in the starting XI in 30 of his 32 Eredivisie matches. He most frequently lined up alongside Youri Baas; the duo started together 27 times.
In terms of productivity, Godts was also among Ajax’s standout performers. The Belgian registered no fewer than 80 shots, around thirty more than any teammate, with 39 on target. He was directly involved in 29 goals, scoring seventeen and providing twelve assists.
His output also came through combinations with multiple teammates. Godts provided three assists each for both Davy Klaassen and Oscar Gloukh. Conversely, he received assists from ten different teammates, including Wout Weghorst, Jorthy Mokio, Kasper Dolberg, Kenneth Taylor and Youri Regeer.
Significant contribution
Godts also made a significant contribution in possession to Ajax’s attacking play. Of his 1,139 passes, 911 were completed, resulting in an accuracy of exactly 80 percent. Moreover, no player in the Eredivisie created more chances from open play than the Belgian. Godts produced 78 chances from open play, ahead of players such as Joey Veerman and Ismael Saibari.
"It’s nice that they chose me. It means I’m doing well and I’m happy about that," Godts begins. The Belgian can therefore boast excellent statistics in the Eredivisie and has, among other things, the most successful dribbles, the most carries (covering at least five metres with the ball at his feet), the most chances created from open play of all players, and he is the ‘Most Valuable Player’. The best one? "Probably the dribbles and the chances created from open play."
