Godts follows in the footsteps of Jorrel Hato. The defender, who left in the summer, received the award last season. Ryan Gravenberch and Jurriën Timber had previously also won the trophy for best talent in the competition.
The Belgian forward made a total of 44 appearances for the Amsterdammers this season. In 32 VriendenLoterij Eredivisie matches, Godts scored seventeen goals and provided twelve assists. As a result, he became the MVP of the entire competition.
Earlier on Monday, Godts also received Ajax’s Talent of the Year award for this season, chosen by the technical staff of the Amsterdammers.
Godts was also nominated on Monday evening for Player of the Year, but that award went to Ismael Saibari of PSV. His solo goal against NAC was one of the contenders for Goal of the Year, but that honour went to Gyan de Regt of Excelsior.
Van Asten
For Van Asten, a fine season was also crowned on Monday evening with the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Year award. The Ajax player made her debut for the Ajax Women this season after being promoted from the Talent Team, in the opening league match against ADO Den Haag, which Ajax won 6-0. So far, Van Asten has made 24 appearances this season. She started 23 of those matches and came on as a substitute once. Van Asten scored two goals: against GC Frauenfussball and PSV.
In addition to her matches for Ajax, Van Asten also made her debut for the Netherlands Women last season. During the World Cup qualifier against France on 14 April, the Ajax player started and scored the opening goal.
Alongside Van Asten, Danique Tolhoek was also nominated for Talent of the Year. In the Women’s Eredivisie Player of the Year category, Danique Noordman was one of the contenders. That award went to Mao Itamura of Feyenoord.
Joëlle Smits received a nomination for Goal of the Year, but Sam de Jong of FC Utrecht ultimately claimed that prize.
