Most European matches ever for Klaassen: 'The record is an honour'
Davy Klaassen is the Ajacied with the most European appearances ever. From Lyon to London, the midfielder has worn the Ajax shirt 79 times in European competition. In a beautiful setting, we look back with the cheerful and sometimes emotional captain on his European matches for Ajax. "I had a missed call and had to travel to Lyon the next day."

From Lyon to Marseille: 78 times Davy Klaassen
The fairytale that began in France on November 22, 2011, will see a beautiful new chapter added almost 14 years later - over 300 kilometres further south, to be precise. Davy Klaassen made his first-team debut for Ajax in a UEFA Champions League match away to Olympique Lyon in 2011. On Tuesday evening in Marseille, he will be crowned the Ajacied with the most European appearances to his name. Olympique Marseille away will be number 78.

Klaassen: 'First hour was good'
Captain Davy Klaassen felt Ajax started strongly against PEC Zwolle, but after the visitors made a tactical change, the Amsterdam side’s performance dropped. "I think we played well in the first half. Really, the first hour was good, then it became sloppy," he admitted to ESPN. "That had to do with the fact that they pressed differently, which made things more difficult for us. We need to look at that so we can do better next time."
