Maarten Paes was born on 14 May 1998 in Nijmegen and also holds an Indonesian passport. The goalkeeper has been playing in Dallas since the summer of 2022 and made his debut for the Indonesia national team in 2024. He previously played in the Netherlands for NEC and FC Utrecht. He has been playing for Ajax since January 2026.

Maarten Paes has only just become an Ajax player, but partly due to injuries he is now the first-choice goalkeeper. Together with the Dutch-born shot-stopper, who also holds an Indonesian passport, we set out to look for his new house, reflect on his first weeks and he shares some lovely words about his Indonesian grandmother. Maarten Paes put in a decent performance on his official debut for Ajax, although he struggled to come to terms with the draw against NEC. "When you are Ajax, you must always beat NEC at home," he told ESPN.
Ajax, FC Dallas and Maarten Paes have reached agreement on the immediate transfer of the goalkeeper to Ajax. The 27-year-old Paes has signed a contract running until June 30, 2029. He was under contract with the American club until the end of this calendar year.
