Ajax signs Giovanni van der Wijst

Ajax has signed Giovanni van der Wijst. The seventeen-year-old goalkeeper has put pen to paper on a contract running until June 30, 2029. It is his first professional contract.

Van der Wijst (Zaanstad, May 1, 2009) joined Ajax in 2019 from partner club Fortuna Wormerveer. Since arriving in Amsterdam, he has progressed through the club’s academy and represented various youth teams in recent years. Next season, the goalkeeper will be part of Ajax U19, the academy’s flagship side.

Director of Football Marijn Beuker: "Giovanni is an athletic goalkeeper with outstanding reflexes. He is strong in one-on-one situations and stands out through his communication and ability to deal with crosses. It is great to see a goalkeeper with his qualities continue his development within our academy, and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him at the club."
