After the draw with PEC Zwolle (2-2), Michael Valkanis said Ajax did not maintain a high enough level or pace. "It was much too slow, yes," complained the coach standing in for John van 't Schip. The trainer is in Australia for his son's wedding. "We didn't play to our potential, and we were still 1-0 up after the first half. After that, it's just disappointing to blow a 2-0 lead and end up with a 2-2 draw."

The trainer also saw that Ajax was not forceful enough on the attack. "We didn't always have a sharp focus in the 'final third'. PEC Zwolle was also well-organised."

Further, Valkanis had criticism for the residual defence. Although he said that was mostly due to the eagerness of the Ajax players. "The lads were indeed eager to get goals, but you can't let that come at the expense of organisation. We did have an attacking attitude, but often weren't well-positioned to get the ball back after losing it."

"It looked a bit like the match in Almere," continued the coach. "We couldn't get it done there either. But yeah, we have to keep going: we still have a cup match to go."
