It was a rough afternoon in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Although the Amsterdam team had the first chance of the match, after the first quarter of the match the ratio was 1 chance to 4. That actually told the story from the start of the match.

Where PEC Zwolle had failed to convert, Ajax did after just over half an hour. Brobbey fired in the 1-0 marker from close range. The striker seemed to have made the game a bit easier for Ajax just after half time by making it 2-0.

Then the Ajax fans showed their best side in the 55th minute. The spectators stood up and applauded for coach Van ’t Schip. The Ajax coach lost his wife this autumn at the age of 55. With their applause, the fans wanted to give the trainer encouragement.

However, it went wrong for Ajax shortly after that. First, Lennart Thy scored on the counterattack. In the absolute dying minutes, the Zwolle striker found the mark again with a bicycle kick. In the run up to the goal, Tolis Vellios seemed to commit a handball, but the VAR did not intervene. With this, Ajax finishes the first half of the season on a downer.
