The project was launched last May when the entire selection visited the island. Among others Steven Berghuis, Edson Álvarez and Jurriën Timber played ball in the schoolyard. Enthusiastic and happy children were the result.
Future Goals is an initiative that encourages children to play soccer through sustainably produced materials. The program uses the power of soccer to teach children sporting and social skills. Special attention is paid to the importance of taking good care of the island and the people around you.
The program runs throughout the school year and will continue in 23/24. The goal is to facilitate soccer in a sustainable way at elementary schools in Curaçao. This manifests itself in such things as goals made from plastic waste & fishing nets from the ocean.
The first successes have already been achieved. Ajax & Sandals Resorts have been busy all year and 703 children from 29 classes have been part of the program. Twenty local coaches have also been trained, who now have paid jobs through this program. In a couple of weeks, on June 20, 2023, the Future Goals League will take place, an event where all schools participate and enjoy playing football.
