In 1996, Ajax moved from Amsterdam East to South East. Stadium 'De Meer', which had been the club's home since 1934, was traded in for the Johan Cruijff ArenA, then known as the Amsterdam ArenA.
The cosy stadium in Watergraafsmeer no longer met the standards required of a major football club. For instance, De Meer was too small to host European matches, meaning Ajax had to play those at the Olympic Stadium in the south of Amsterdam until 1996.
Where Stadium De Meer once stood, a residential neighbourhood now stands, and at first glance little seems to remain of the legendary football grounds. Only the observant passer-by will notice that, on the spot where the centre spot once lay, there resides a monument formed by circles, with a symbolic reference to the old centre spot of the stadium at its heart. A tribute to the place where so many Ajax matches once kicked off.
The circular pattern of this stone monument is the inspiration behind the design of the Pre-match shirt Ajax will wear during the 26/27 season. The Pre-match wear is part of the Home Collection the club launched last week.

Two weeks before the release, we headed into the city for the photoshoot of the new home kit. Any Amsterdam resident could already have spotted our new shirt around the city. "For me, recognisability is important: this is Ajax."
Ajax and Team Rockstars IT have reached an agreement to extend their partnership. The IT company, a pioneer in human-centred AI, will remain the club’s Official Sleeve Partner for the coming years under a new agreement running until 2029. The Team Rockstars IT logo will continue to feature on the sleeve of the Ajax shirt during both domestic and international matches. With this extension, both parties build on the successful partnership that began in 2025, with shared ambitions in talent development, innovation and growth at its core.
