The Amsterdam side then went in search of an equaliser. Ella Touon and Nadine Noordam were among those who tried their luck from distance, but neither attempt resulted in a goal. Ajax were unable to level the score before the break and went into half-time trailing 1-0.

Ajax came out of the dressing room strongly in the second half and immediately went in search of an equaliser. They eventually found it through Katja Snoeijs, who made it 1-1 and brought Ajax right back into the game.

The Amsterdam side then had chances to turn the match completely around. Sherida Spitse came close to making it 1-2, but her effort failed to find the back of the net. However, things went wrong for Ajax in the closing stages. Lisanne Venema restored sc Heerenveen’s lead in the 82nd minute, before Freya de Groot made it 3-1 just four minutes later.

The result brought a disappointing afternoon at Sportpark Skoatterwâld to an end for Anouk Bruil’s side. Ajax suffered a 3-1 defeat, their first dropped points of the season.
