Antony: 'The biggest surprise was the welcome back at the ArenA'

Antony has had an interesting summer. He appeared for Brazil at the Olympic Games and was the first Ajax player ever to win gold. The wing forward has been back in Amsterdam for over a week now: reason enough for David the Host to pay Antony a visit and find out about his experiences. "I've had lots of messages, but the biggest surprise came last week in the ArenA, where they gave me a huge welcome back."

Anyone spotting Antony at the Toekomst training ground cannot fail to notice his broad smile. This left-footed player is clearly bristling with pride. "It is a dream come true to become Olympic champion wearing the Brazilian strip. The Olympics are hugely important. I am over the moon, and feel honoured. That will stay with me for the rest of my life."

Antony specifically points out his gratitude to Ajax. "Playing for Ajax meant I was able to win gold at the Olympics. I am so grateful to Ajax and have really come to love this great club."
