The Amsterdam side made a bright start and took the lead in just the third minute. Jahyendrow Amour played Pharell Nash through on goal, and the forward calmly slotted the ball into the far corner. Jong Ajax controlled the game for much of the first half and created several opportunities to extend their lead. Both sides went into the break with the score at 1-0.

Ajax U23 were less convincing after the interval, with chances arising at both ends of the pitch. In the 83rd minute, there was a welcome moment for Ajax player Jan Faberski, who made his return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.

However, the equaliser arrived just four minutes later. Substitute Jeredy Hilterman headed home a free-kick from the right at the near post to make it 1-1, which proved to be the final score.
