Ajax scored the 2-2 equaliser late in the match against Excelsior be come out with a point in the duel with the Rotterdammers. The late equaliser was not enough to hide the disappointment of manager John van 't Schip. "Of course I'm not happy with a point."

"You know beforehand that you have to win this match," said the coach. "We did go ahead 1-0, even though we weren't playing well. But the penalty and the red card for Steven Bergwijn that followed were a turning point. This might have been correct according to the letter of the law, but it feels like a double punishment."

Aside from Bergwijn's red card, Brian Brobbey had to come off with an injury a little later. "There was no problem all week, and he's been training well. During the match though, it flared up again. Then Bergwijn is out, and Brobbey isn't there... But I do have to compliment the lads who were still on the field, that they fought back from 1-2 down and did get a point out of the match. But of course that's not what we wanted."

Another draw for Ajax against Excelsior

Ajax was unsuccessful in converting the home game with Excelsior on Wednesday evening into a win. The meeting with the Rotterdammers ended in 2-2 for the second time this season. Ajax played from behind for much of the second half, but Chuba Akpom salvaged a point for a 10-man Ajax just before time.
