Devyne Rensch made his debut appearance for Ajax first team on Saturday evening in Emmen. Naturally, the defender was over the moon about it. "A great moment," said Rensch a day later. "I was warming up when assistant coach Winston Bogarde said to me: 'on you go'. Then I thought: okay, I'd better be ready now."

What exactly was going through Rensch's mind at that moment? "Not much really, because I had already played quite a few games in the pre-season friendlies. Of course, it's always great to make your official debut appearance. It felt good, and with the win it couldn't be better."

At that point, Rensch's phone started going crazy. Lots of people were taking the opportunity to congratulate him. He particularly cherished the messages from his nearest and dearest. "From my mother, from my father, people close to me," explains Rensch. "What exactly were they saying? That we have all worked hard for this, that they will always support me and that I just have to keep going to clock up more appearances."
