Ajax Women face an uphill battle in the Spanish capital. The Amsterdam side lost the first leg 0-2 at the De Toekomst training complex last week. In Real Madrid, Ajax are up against last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finalists. The Spanish side were eliminated in that round by the eventual winners of the competition, FC Barcelona.
At the beginning of August, Ajax Women reached the third qualifying round by defeating Brøndby IF and Rangers FC in a mini-tournament in Scotland. In the match against Rangers FC, Ajax Women decided the contest in the dying moments. Sherida Spitse scored the winner in stoppage time to make it 2-1.
