Ajax Women edge past PEC Zwolle

Ajax took the lead after just over twenty minutes when Xanne Kip finished off a cross from Amber Visscher. At that stage, the advantage was well deserved. However, PEC Zwolle grew into the game as the first half progressed, although the visitors were unable to find an equaliser.

The hosts also found life difficult after the break. PEC Zwolle's best opportunity came through substitute Ilvy Zijp. Following a mistake in the Ajax defence, the forward raced through on goalkeeper Femke Liefting. Liefting won the initial one-on-one, but Zijp regained possession from the rebound. With the goalkeeper beaten, she looked set to score into an empty net, only for Nadine Noordam to produce a crucial last-ditch challenge and prevent the equaliser.

PEC Zwolle continued to apply pressure, showing some fine passages of play and posing a threat going forward. Their pursuit of a result also created space at the other end. Around ten minutes from time, Katja Snoeijs looked poised to take advantage after a strong run, but her effort was denied by goalkeeper Inge Tijink.

The visitors from Overijssel kept pushing until the final whistle, but no further goals followed and Ajax held on for another narrow victory.

With fifteen minutes remaining, Ella Touon was introduced from the bench. The Swiss defender therefore made her first appearance for Ajax Women.
