John van 't Schip is satisfied with Jordan Henderson's first days of training at Ajax. The coach will only decide later whether there is a role for the Englishman in Overijssel, where the Ajax players take on Heracles Almelo on Saturday night.

"Jordan played his last full match in Saudi Arabia just before the turn of the year. Then they had a break and he went to England for a while," Van 't Schip told reporters Friday morning before the final training session. "So he has now been out of the match rhythm for a month, plus the fact that he had not trained in a group for a while. We have to see to what extent he can play a part or not at all. That is something we are still going to decide."

During training sessions, Henderson is 'making a very good impression' for now, Van 't Schip said. The Ajax coach noticed an immediate impact in more ways than one.

"I think it is very nice and also important for the group that we have been able to bring in such a player. We have discussed more often in recent months that the balance is a bit skewed, including in terms of the ages. That is still the case now, but by bringing in Jordan, you immediately feel we have added someone who can take us a step further in the dressing room and on the pitch. Of course, everything remains to be seen in practice, but his CV obviously says it all."

Bergwijn doubtful, no Šutalo
For the away game at Heracles, Van 't Schip has a number of question marks. "Steven Bergwijn is a doubt. Josip Šutalo is not going to make it yet, which is a setback. Chuba Akpom was sick and was unable to train all week. To what extent he will have a role is also questionable. Furthermore, Tristan Gooijer is available. He was unavailable and was a bit upset by that, but has been training with us for the past three days."
