“It was not as easy as the result suggests,” was John van 't Schip's analysis shortly after the 4-1 victory over RKC. “We got to 1-0, but some cartoon moments made it even. Fortunately, thanks to a fine goal from Brobbey, we got back to 2-1, which meant we went into the break in the lead.”

But Van 't Schip was not totally satisfied. "We have to read the situation better and make the right choices. We had two younger defenders on again today. We played some great football, but the defenders ran into problems several times. That wasn't just down to the defenders, but also the forward lines."

The Ajax manager sang the praises of Brian Brobbey. The Ajax striker made quite some difference with two goals. "The players are realising more and more what to do. He's a reliable starting point. He delivers peace of mind and ensures the game keeps moving."

AZ and FC Twente both lost points this weekend, meaning Ajax has narrowed the gap with fourth and third place. "We feel it is important to keep up the pressure and win our own games. We've still got a lot to do. This weekend has gone well for us, but there are still many more ahead."
