After the break, the Amsterdam-based team continued their hunt for the equaliser. Substitutes Edvardsen and Weghorst made the difference in today’s match. Coming on in the 59th and 69th minute, both substitutions were involved in the two following goals. Steven Berghuis gave the assist to Edvardsen, who got the ball behind Willem II’s goalkeeper.
Only a few minutes later, Weghorst changed the match completely. Kian Fitz-Jim was the one to assist Weghorst, who gave Ajax the lead in the 78th minute. Ajax defended their lead for the remainder of the match and were able to take the three points back to Amsterdam.
