After the match, Davy Klaassen was dissatisfied with Ajax's performance. "It's disappointing in the end. We just aren't playing the way we want to," said the midfielder. His coach, Maurice Steijn echoed his words. "We lost two valuable points here. It isn't necessary.”

Klaassen feels that Ajax should demolish opponents like Excelsior. "We need to be prepared for situations like today where we're not playing under perfect conditions like the Johan Cruijff ArenA. There are a lot of new faces, and it's natural that we aren't completely used to them yet. But it's a pity."

Steijn also thought that Ajax's play was too ‘viscous’. “Everything took too long on the ball. When you play against Excelsior, you have to play football at a much higher pace. The final four each needed three, four actions for a cross. Then you don't get our attackers in one-on-one situations. We did poorly in that regard."

Klaassen himself did score the goal for 2-2 against Excelsior. Even so, he isn't satisfied. "I did score, but you just want to win. If you get one in but don't win… you are a team player after all", said the Ajax man.
