Ajax falls short of victory against Excelsior

Ajax failed to win their second league game with Maurice Steijn as head coach. The Ajax players did not get beyond 2-2 against Excelsior at the Van Donge & De Roo stadium.

Ajax kicked off the Eredivisie a week ago with a 4-1 home win over Heracles Almelo. The newest acquisitions, Chuba Akpom and Anton Gaaei, were not yet guaranteed a place in Ajax's starting eleven in Rotterdam.

At half-time, it was 1-1 in Rotterdam. Ajax failed to secure the win in the second half, and the score remained 2-2.

The draw means Ajax no longer have the maximum achievable number of points after two rounds of play in the Eredivisie. Next Thursday, the Ajax players hope to take their revenge. The first encounter with Ludogorets awaits in Bulgaria. Next weekend, the Amsterdam team have no Eredivisie commitments.
