In the fourth training match of this new season, a number of internationals clocked up their first minutes on the pitch. Those newcomers included Dusan Tadic, Steven Berghuis and Edson Álvarez. Jay Goter defended the Amsterdam goal.
Few opportunities
In the match with last's season's Belgian number fifteen, there were few hi-lights in the first half. Ajax did manage to cut through the crowded midfield on several occasions, but the final passes were often lacklustre. The attacks were continually stopped around the visitors' penalty area.
Álvarez's header (over) and Steven Berghuis's shot (straight at Nurudeen) failed to score the opening goal. The visitors made one good threat, but the shot went over the bar.
Schreuder made seven changes to the team after half-time. Nico Tagliafico, Lisandro Magallán, Kudus, Sean Klaiber, Youri Regeer, Mohamed Daramy and Amourricho van Axel Dongel all joined the team on the pitch.
On the back foot
With those changes in place Ajax found itself trailing 0-1 in the 50th minute. After a long ball from the back, KAS Eupen's striker Prevljak spooned the ball over Jay Gorter. The Ajax players were close to equalising ten minutes later. With a brave attempt, the substitute Kudus hit the post.
Sure-footed Kudus
In the final phase, the Ghanaian eventually found the net. Tagliafico played a good ball into the net, which Kudus put behind Nurudeen from close range. That turned out to be the last scoring attempt of the match.
This Sunday Ajax are leaving for Austria for the second training camp in the lead up to the 2022/2023 season.
