"Just go all out, and then we'll see. Although I do want to be important for the team, in whatever role that may be," Remko Pasveer said in May 2021. At the time, he was a brand-new Ajax player, 37 years old and freshly arrived from Vitesse. More than four years later, the experienced goalkeeper is on the brink of a milestone, and his role has turned out to be bigger than perhaps expected back then. Against Excelsior Maassluis, the Enschede-born keeper, now 42 years young, will play his 100th match for Ajax’s first team.

With his 42 years, Pasveer is immediately the most experienced member of the prestigious Club of 100. Back in 2021, then Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag already described Pasveer’s age as a strength, suggesting he would 'age like fine wine'. "I think he has a pretty good view of that," Pasveer smiled at the time. Four years later, in the summer of 2025, the goalkeeper extended his contract by another year and, with 93 matches already to his name back then, added: "The goal is to reach a hundred."

At 42 years and 39 days, Pasveer is not only breaking a new record every match as the oldest active Ajax player, but he is also the only player to have joined the Club of 100 after his 40th birthday. He succeeds Jorrel Hato as the latest male member of the famous club. A nice detail is that Hato, who has since moved to Chelsea, reached the milestone of 100 matches as the youngest player ever.

Before Pasveer, the oldest Ajax player to join the Club of 100 was Fred Grim, who achieved that feat in 2001 at the age of 36. Other Ajax players, such as Dušan Tadić and Steven Berghuis, also reached the 100-match mark after their 30th birthdays.

Clean sheets for Pasveer
Pasveer’s debut for Ajax initially looked like a false start. He was in goal for the Johan Cruyff Shield match in 2021, but Ajax suffered a heavy 0–4 defeat against PSV. His Eredivisie debut for Ajax was far more successful: in September 2021, Ajax won 0–2 away at PEC Zwolle. In the 99 matches he has played for Ajax, Pasveer has kept a clean sheet 45 times. Only matches in which he played the full 90 minutes are included in this count.

In those 99 matches, he most frequently shared the pitch with another member of the Club of 100: Steven Berghuis. The goalkeeper lined up alongside the Ajax midfielder-turned-forward on 79 occasions. Davy Klaassen follows with 76 matches together, while Kenneth Taylor completes the top three with 74. It is therefore no surprise that Pasveer and Berghuis also left the pitch as winners most often together: 53 times.

Statistically, Pasveer enjoyed his best spell right at the start of his time in Amsterdam. In the 2021/2022 season, the goalkeeper made 28 appearances for Ajax across all competitions. Of those matches, Ajax won 22, drew three and lost three, giving him a win percentage of over 78 per cent. Last season, he came close again, recording a win percentage of 65 per cent with Pasveer between the posts.

Pasveer’s top matches
When compiling a list of Pasveer’s top five performances based on statistics, two matches from last season also feature. In both the home matches against Galatasaray and Union Saint-Gilloise in the UEFA Europa League, he made eight saves. Against Galatasaray, he prevented a statistically expected 2.15 goals, while against the Belgians, he recorded a figure of 1.96.

Also included in the top five is the UEFA Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund in 2021. With, among other things, a sensational save from a shot by then Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, Pasveer prevented an expected goals figure of 1.61 for the German side that evening.

With these statistics to his name, many coaches have relied on Pasveer’s experience over the past four years. Ultimately, he played the most matches under Francesco Farioli, featuring 43 times. The coach who brought him to Ajax, Ten Hag, called upon him on 28 occasions, Alfred Schreuder 21 times, John Heitinga five times, and Grim twice up to and including the match against Excelsior Maassluis.
