Ajax have suffered a painful loss in the UEFA Champions League match against Olympique de Marseille. The Amsterdam-based team lost 4-0 in Stade Vélodrome.

Within fifteen minutes, Ajax had conceded two goals, both scored by Igor Paixão. John Heitinga’s team tried to regain composure, but struggled to keep Marseille away from their box. No real chances were created on Ajax’s side. After a simple ball loss from Ajax, Mason Greenwood hit the net: 3-0. The teams went into the dressing room at a 3-0 standing.

After the break, Ajax managed to get into the game a little bit more, but soon conceded another goal. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted a corner and found the net, 4-0. Towards the end of the match, Ajax managed to create a few chances. Both Oscar Gloukh and Kenneth Taylor failed to get the ball in the net. Marseille kept Ajax at a safe distance for the remainder of the match. 

The next Champions League match that awaits Ajax is the away match against Chelsea on Wednesday, October 22, at 21:00.
