Wijndal's career started with ZVV Zaandijk's youth team before he was picked up at the amateur level by HFC Haarlem (now defunct). They were, at the time, a satellite club of Ajax. Between 2010 and 2016 he was a youth player for Alkmaar. After a season with Jong AZ (2016/2017), the he moved on to the first team. Since his Eredivisie debut in 2016/2017, Wijndal has played 143 official matches for AZ, scoring four times and providing 27 assists. At 17 years, 68 days old, the left back was the youngest AZ debutant ever.

Ajax new signing has been present in all the national teams from the U15s onward. On October 7, 2020, Wijndal made his official debut for the Dutch national team in a friendly match against Mexico (0-1 defeat). Frank de Boer, the coach at that time, gave the defender a spot in the starting lineup. So far, Wijndal has played eleven international matches for the Netherlands. He is yet to score for the national team, but has provided three assists.
