No goals as Ajax U23 draw with Roda JC

Ajax U23 and Roda JC failed to find the net at De Toekomst on Friday evening, with the match ending in a goalless draw. A Jano Monserrate effort that struck the post was the closest Ajax U23 came to securing all three points in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.

Ajax U23 created the first chance of the game. Emre Ünüvar picked out Pharell Nash on the edge of the penalty area. The winger had drifted into a central attacking position and turned away from his marker, creating space for a shot. His low effort drifted inches wide of the post.

There was little goalmouth action for the remainder of the first half. The visitors from Kerkrade came closest through Guilherme Peixoto, whose attempt was comfortably dealt with by Charlie Setford. Ajax U23 also threatened from a header, but neither side managed to break the deadlock before the interval.

Shortly after the restart, Monserrate came closest yet to opening the scoring. The midfielder tried his luck from distance, and his effort from just outside the penalty area crashed against the post.

International Break
Ajax U23 enjoyed the better of the play throughout the match but struggled to find a way past Roda JC goalkeeper Treichel.

Due to the upcoming international break, Ajax U23 now face a pause of almost three weeks. Their next fixture is scheduled for 9 October, when they take on VVV-Venlo.

On Tuesday evening, Youri Baas had his photo added to the wall in the players' tunnel joining the ranks of players who have played at least 100 matches for Ajax. His journey began away to FC Utrecht. Against Willem II, Baas made his 100th appearance in an Ajax shirt at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
