Future Goals is an initiative that encourages children to play football. It focuses on sustainable materials and an inspiring teaching package. Schools receive the necessary football equipment, essential items that were often lacking in the past: a bag of balls and goals. The goals are made from old fishing nets and plastic waste. Future Coaches, local young people trained by Ajax coaches, run the program at the schools. There are also annual closing activities such as clean-ups, creative challenges, and soccer tournaments.
Patrice Gilpin, PR Manager of the Sandals Foundation: "By extending our partnership with Ajax, we’re giving more children the opportunity to play, to lead, and to connect with the environment in ways that truly matter. Through our ongoing efforts, we’ve recycled almost 300,000 kilos of plastic and collected over 282 square meters of fishing nets in Curaçao. Together, we’re building a stronger, more sustainable future for the Caribbean.”
Cas Biesta, commercial director of Ajax: "In this partnership with Sandals Resorts, we are showing the impact Ajax can have on the other side of the world. It's wonderful to see that the Future Goals program has been running non-stop on Curaçao for three years now. The foundation is ‘love for soccer,’ but it also teaches children about teamwork, creativity, resilience, and caring for their environment. We are very proud to be working together towards 'More Future Goals.'
