The number two of the Bundesliga can and will not be underestimated. That became clear during the pre-match press conference held by Heitinga and captain Dusan Tadic in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. Earlier that day, the Ajax players gave off that same feeling on the pitch. On the eve of the first-ever official match against Union Berlin, Ajax trained filled with passion and dedication.

Under spring-like conditions, the finishing touches were put into place on sports complex De Toekomst. All in order to shine Thursday from 18:45 onwards, and give the Ajax supporters an enjoyable evening filled with gorgeous football. During the home match in the Johan Cruyff ArenA, Ajax have to enforce a good result ahead of the return in Berlin, a week later. In the German capital, Ajax can secure a ticket to the next round of the European tournament. If they succeed, John Heitinga’s winning streak gets a fitting sequel in Europe. Of course, this is only fit for a team like Ajax: performing on the biggest stages and being a part of the battle for the prize.
