Ajax had a disappointing afternoon in De Adelaarshorst on Sunday. The Ajax squad played to a 0-0 draw against Go Ahead Eagles. "We knew that we had to win, but that didn't happen. That brings you back to reality very quickly," Heitinga begins. "We want to play in the UEFA Champions League next year, which means you need to win league matches."

"After the match, we were disappointed, but it's good that we know another match is approaching very quickly," says the Ajax head coach, who expects a hard-fought cup match in Rotterdam-Zuid. "We want to make the final, but we'll need to be good everywhere on Wednesday evening."

Prize
Heitinga emphasises that the Ajax team will need to be at their very best on Wednesday. "The reality is that we always set the bar at a very high level. It's been a tough season, and making the final and ultimately winning the cup is also a prize to play for," says the head coach.

Ajax is playing the third Classic of the season against Feyenoord on Wednesday. The first match in De Kuip ended in a 1-1 draw, while Ajax lost at home by 2-3 before the international break. Heitinga is hungry for revenge. "These types of matches are great billing. Now you play in the sold-out Kuip, where of course Feyenoord have the supporters behind them. We'll need to be perfect in almost everything to reach the final."

Highlights Go Ahead Eagles - Ajax

Ajax have not come out of the international break well. John Heitinga's team were bogged down in a no-score draw in Deventer against Go Ahead Eagles: 0-0. Mohammed Kudus still looked to have put Ajax ahead 0-1 in the first half, but his header was disallowed. VAR did not intervene either.

Ajax has, again, not managed to get passed a tie against Go Ahead Eagles. Earlier this season, Ajax also tied with the team from Deventer in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. That match ended 1-1. Sunday’s match against Go Ahead Eagles ended 0-0.
