The 39-year-old manager also watched his squad find things out in the first half. "The team was showing some hesitancy, which was totally not needed. Teamwork and communication were not good. That's something we'll have to look into," said Heitinga, who was pleased with the second half. "It meant we were under constant pressure."
Double substitution
Heitinga took the decision to make two substitutions at half-time. "You talk with your assistants. The ball moved far too slowly during the first half. We had to fall back swiftly to open up the spacing. Luckily we made it 1-1 fairly quickly, which helps with confidence."
Edson Álvarez played at number six in the second half, and Calvin Bassey came on for Davy Klaassen. "That's the trade-off you risk every time. Edson was just right, he was perfect in the second half. I was happy with the trio with Bassey and Timber."
