Ajax started the match against FC Twente poorly and struggled during the first twenty minutes. The home team had, partially due to mistakes on the Amsterdam side, a few dangerous opportunities. The closest to a goal was Sadilek, but the Czech hit the crossbar.
Luckily, Ajax did not concede a goal, which gave them the chance to fight. Halfway through the first half, the visitors gained control and calmed the storm made by FC Twente. It led to a lead after little over half an hour of playing. Kenneth Taylor passed the ball to Brian Brobbey, who made an assist to Tadic: 0-1.
Dramatic second half
In the second half, things went wrong for Ajax. In the first minute of the second half, Ajax conceded a goal. There were a few moments in which Ajax could have turned the tide, but that didn’t happen. Joshua Brenet found Mandred Ugalde’s head: 1-1.
Five minutes later, another header led to the 2-1. Defender Julia Pleguezelo headed a free kick made by Cerny into the goal.
The former Ajax player made the 3-1 fifteen minutes before time. Heitinga made an attacking change by bringing on Lorenzo Lucca and Steven Berghuis, but the goal fell on the other side. Ajax had one more shot at the 3-1 through Berghuis, but the substitute ran into goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall. Lucca did not manage to score either.
