Klaassen was born on February 21, 1993, in Hilversum. In Amsterdam, he followed Ajax's youth academy and made his debut on November 22, 2011, in the UEFA Champions League match Olympique Lyon – Ajax (0-0). After the 2016/2017 season, he transferred to Everton in England. Between 2018 and 2020, the midfielder played for Werder Bremen before returning to Ajax. Last summer, he moved to Italy, where the 31-year-old played for Internazionale, winning the Serie A title with the Italian club.
With this new agreement, Klaassen begins his third period in Amsterdam, where he has already played 321 matches for the first team, scoring 93 goals and providing 50 assists. Klaassen also won the league title five times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2021, and 2022) with Ajax. Additionally, he won the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2013 and the Dutch Cup in 2021. In 2016, the former international was named Dutch Footballer of the Year.
Technical director Alex Kroes: "We are happy with his arrival. Davy is talented, fit, and ready to play quickly. We have a hectic schedule in the coming months and are dealing with various injuries. Davy made a strong impression during the period he trained with us, and he is also very eager to play for Ajax again. All of this has led to the contract he has now signed. We believe he will add value to the team both on and off the pitch."
