The Ajax players, coached by Anouk Bruil, can look back on an excellent week. The Amsterdam side enjoyed a successful mini-qualification tournament in Glasgow last week. On Wednesday, they defeated Brøndby IF (2-0) in the first round of the tournament, in which a place in the third round (the play-offs) had to be secured.
Another victory followed on Saturday, this time against Rangers FC. Nadine Noordam opened the scoring, after which Ajax conceded an equaliser but showed great resilience. From the penalty spot, experienced campaigner Sherida Spitse secured a 2–1 victory for Ajax Women.
From August 26 onwards, Ajax will face two sporting challenges that promise to be highly attractive top-level fixtures. Their objective will be to reach the main tournament of the Women’s Champions League.
The losers of the play-offs will drop into the second qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.
Match dates and kick-off times are always subject to change.
