Ajax Women suffer home defeat against PSV

The visitors from Eindhoven struck early through Lore Jacobs, who was given space to shoot and beat Femke Liefing: 0-1. Ajax immediately looked for a quick equaliser. Following a corner from Sherida Spitse, Amber Visscher picked up the ball from the rebound, but her effort went over the bar.

PSV proved clinical and doubled their lead shortly afterwards through Shanice van de Sanden: 0-2. An unfortunate own goal by Xanne Kip, following a high free kick into the box, then made it 0-3. As a result, Ajax Women went into halftime facing a substantial deficit.

Ajax appeared determined after the break and showed their intent straight away with a great chance for Katja Snoeijs. However, the striker was unable to beat PSV goalkeeper Nicky Evrard. At the other end, PSV struck again. Liz Rijsbergen received the ball after a backheel assist from Jacobs and fired it into the net.

Just after the hour mark, Ajax had an opportunity to pull one back. Amber Visscher was brought down in the penalty area and Spitse stepped up to take the penalty, converting successfully to make it 1-4. Despite the goal, Bruil's side was unable to further reduce the deficit.
