Ajax win in Istanbul thanks to star man Haller

Sébastien Haller carried Ajax past Besiktas with two goals on Wednesday evening. The attacker was subbed on at half time and single-handedly turned a 1-0 deficit into a 1-2 victory. As a result, Ajax have sealed their position at the top of Group C.

With the victory in Istanbul, Ajax have written history in a number of respects. This is the first time in history that a Dutch club has won it's first five matches in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Further, it’s the first time in 25 years that a Dutch team has won their group.

And Haller? The striker scored his ninth goal in the group stage making him the first player ever to reach this number in his first five games at the highest level of European football.

Another fun fact: Haller has now single-handedly scored more goals than 21 of the 32 clubs in the Champions League this season.
