Ajax overcome Atalanta in closing stages

Ajax recorded a 2-0 home win over Atalanta in the League Phase of the UEFA Conference League. Míchel Sánchez's side scored twice in the closing stages. Tolu and Abdellah Ouazane made the difference for Ajax.

The Amsterdam side threatened to take the lead early in the match. Lucas Rosa's shot took a deflection off an Italian defender and struck the inside of the post. Jorthy Mokio and Marcos Leonardo also came close to scoring before half-time.

In the second half, the first chances once again fell to Ajax. This time, Julian Brandt came close to finding the net. After an hour, Ajax appeared to tire and the Italians sensed there was something in the game for them in Amsterdam. However, they did not manage anything beyond a shot from Nicola Zalewski.

Just when the match appeared to be heading for a goalless draw, two Ajax players sent the Johan Cruijff ArenA into raptures. First, Tolu kept his cool when he found himself one-on-one with the Italian goalkeeper.
