The first half in the Johan Cruijff ArenA started with a few chances for both teams. After half an hour, the Amsterdam-based team started to find their way to their opponents half more often, but failed to find the net. John Heitinga’s team went into the dressing room at a 0-0 standing.

In the second half, the tide turned in Galatasaray’s favour. After an unfortunate handball by Youri Baas, Victor Osimhen converted the resulting penalty to make it 0-1. Not long after, the striker found the net again: 0-2. Following another handball, this time by European debutant Gerald Alders, Osimhen stepped up once more to complete his hat-trick. Ajax are still waiting for their first points in the UEFA Champions League.
