Ajax exploded off the starting blocks at the Johan Cruyff ArenA. John van 't Schip's team opened the scoring in the first ten minutes. From a fantastic heel kick from Kenneth Taylor, the ball landed at Brobbey's feet. The Ajax striker kept calm in front of the opposition goal and scored on the spin: 1-0.

Just before half time, Ajax managed to double their lead over Sparta. The Amsterdam team were awarded a penalty after a foul on Brobbey. Team captain Bergwijn squared up to the ball and scored a flawless goal, sending the Ajax players off to the dressing room 2-0 up at half time.

Van 't Schip's team still had to work hard in the second half. Sparta put themselves back in the game in the 55th minute, thanks to a goal by Camiel Neghli: 2-1. The Rotterdam team got no further than that though, so the three points remained in Amsterdam and Ajax chalked up another home victory.

Ajax takes a stand against social hate

Every month, players of Ajax Men’s and Women’s teams receive over 1,500 hate messages on social media. But sadly it’s not just our players. These types of messages are part of a growing trend that impact millions of people online. In an effort to silence social hate, Ajax will wear a jersey with three white dots instead of names during their matches this weekend. The dots represent the universal sign for silence, as well as the menu icon you select to report hate messages and associated accounts.
