Ajax fail to win at home again

The evening started well for Ajax. After a spectacular display by the F-Side to celebrate their anniversary, Tolu headed Ajax into the lead early in the first half. For a moment, it seemed set to be a good evening. Ajax controlled the opening stages, but the visitors were awarded a penalty with their very first chance. Jorthy Mokio committed a foul inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Tjaronn Chery struck the penalty firmly into the net.

After the equaliser, Ajax immediately had an opportunity to restore their lead through Mokio. Unfortunately, the midfielder hit the crossbar. A minute later, Oscar Gloukh also found himself in a promising position. The attacker produced a shot that was too tame, allowing Gonzalo Crettaz to prevent the 2-1 with ease.

The second half was an open affair. Substitute Abdellah Ouazane had Ajax's best chances to secure victory, but the hosts also had to be wary of NEC on the counter-attack. Chery found the net again in the second half, though he was clearly in an offside position.

The 1-1 draw against NEC means Ajax have dropped points at home once again. Earlier this season, the Amsterdam side were also unable to beat sc Heerenveen, PSV and Excelsior in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
