2020/2021 season
Two years ago Ajax also faced Liverpool in the group stage of the Champions League. The English were too strong on two occasions with 1-0 at the time. Ajax finished third in the group that included Atalanta and FC Midtjylland.

Napoli
Only in the 1969/1970 season did Italian side Napoli face Ajax in a European club tournament. The Amsterdam team lost 1-0 in the Jaarbeursteden Cup. That defeat was brushed aside at home. At De Meer, the score was still 1-0 after 90 minutes of football. In extra time, Ajax went 4-0 up.
Rangers FC
Scottish side Rangers FC were beaten twice by Louis van Gaal's Ajax in the 1996/97 season. At home it was 4-1, in Glasgow Ajax won 0-1.
