Ajax closed out the year in style. Erik ten Hag’s side sealed a 5-0-victory over Fortuna Sittard at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

With the win, Ajax end the first half of the season in the Eredivisie with 42 points and an impressive goal difference of +51.

The home team encountered a Fortuna that really wanted to play football, and that ensured in a lively opening phase.

The Limburg formation also created several opportunities, but it was Daley Blind who scored the opening goal, in the fourteenth minute. It was the defender's first goal of the Eredivisie season.

It turned out to be the start of a good phase for the home team, who got their just rewards  nine minutes later with a second goal. Antony waded in and put the ball into the far corner: 2-0.

Some time later, they scored again for 3-0. Devyne Rensch put in some good runs, ten minutes before the end. He got the ball perfectly from Antony and finished neatly: 3-0. Shortly afterwards, Haller netted a goal eleven meters capatalising on a penalty from substitute, Kenneth Taylor. The striker's neatly aimed shot delivered the score 4-0 and he became joint top scorer of the Eredivisie.

Two minutes later, Haller claimed that lead for himself when he passed Van Osch for the 5-0.

Birthday-Boy Berghuis pleased with three points: 'A little drink'

Steven Berghuis had two reasons to celebrate on Sunday - his thirtieth birthday and Ajax’s 0-2 win against Feyenoord. This was his first time returning to the Kuip as an Ajax player. The Ajax bus was met with a lot of fireworks. ''I am grateful to Ajax, Feyenoord and the police for how they arranged the arrival. It was exciting for a bit, but you also have to be mature about that.''
