The 29-year-old Zinchenko previously spent a year on loan at PSV. This was the 2016/2017 football season, the year in which Ajax reached the final of the UEFA Europa League and PSV finished second in the Eredivisie.
Zinchenko was born in Ukraine, but he established his name as a professional footballer from the spring of 2015 in Russia, with Ufa. Just under eighteen months later, Zinchenko made a major move to Manchester City, which immediately loaned him out to PSV.
After a season in Eindhoven, Zinchenko returned to Manchester, where he grew into a valued and versatile player. Initially as a full-back, later also as a midfielder. It was a successful period, as City won, among other honours, four league titles, an FA Cup and four EFL Cups up to his departure in mid-2022.
In addition, he reached the final of the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City. On May 29, 2021, Zinchenko started the final against Chelsea, a match that was lost 1–0.
In mid-2022, Zinchenko made a transfer within England, with Arsenal as his next step. In his first two years as a Gunner, the left-footer was a regular starter, before featuring less frequently. As a result, a loan move to Nottingham Forest last summer offered a solution.
That move, however, did not work out, leading both parties to decide to terminate the loan agreement early. Now that the final details have been resolved, nothing stands in the way of a move to the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
Zinchenko, who has featured at three European Championships with Ukraine national team, will play in Amsterdam wearing shirt number 47.
