The forward also felt Ajax did not get off to a great start. "They went into the lead, but luckily we soon made it 1-1. We failed to take control after that. Either way, NEC away is always a tough match. But it certainly worked in our favour that the other side were short on goals. That worked out."
Weghorst scored twice from assists from Kenneth Taylor. He was delighted to have connected with the midfielder. "Kenneth made two super passes today. He passed the first ball back brilliantly, the second was perfectly placed."
All in all, the forward was particularly pleased that Ajax won, despite how tricky it was in Nijmegen. "Today was very important, for sure. Losing to Real Sociedad last Thursday was disappointing, but we are still well-placed in the Europa League. We just need to keep winning the games."
