Weghorst: 'Scoring feels great for a striker'

Wout Weghorst was pleased with his own output after Ajax’s match against Telstar: 2-0. The striker scored twice, though he was less satisfied with Ajax’s overall performance. "Scoring is always great for a striker. I’m happy with the win and happy with the points. That’s the most important thing. But in too many aspects and details, it needs to be better."

In the opening stages, Ajax were also grateful to goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros for keeping them in the game. The new signing showed sharp reflexes and pulled off several fine saves. "I gave Vitezslav big compliments after the match. He made a couple of really good saves. We gave away too many chances early on."

Weghorst was especially happy that the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie season had begun. The striker played about three and a half matches in pre-season and was looking forward to the opener against Telstar. “As you get older, it’s great when pre-season is over and it’s back to the real thing. I noticed when I woke up this morning that I really had that buzz again.”
