"It’s quite difficult to stay patient. Several doctors told me straight away that it would take six to eight weeks before I could return. It’s the first time I’ve had such a long-term injury in my career."
Not being able to train was also tough for the forward. Off the pitch, the Ajax striker worked hard to stay in shape and return as quickly as possible. "I mainly focused on strength training and kept up my fitness levels. But the first four and a half weeks were especially tough, as I still had a cast on my foot. I was glad to finally get that off."
Things are looking positive
During his absence, Ajax enjoyed a strong run of form in the Eredivisie. The current league leaders are now nine points clear of second-placed PSV with six matches remaining.
"I came here with one goal: to win the league title with Ajax. The fact that we’re in such a strong position is credit to everyone. It’s an opportunity we need to go all in on. It might sound like a cliché, but we really need to take it one match at a time. Things are definitely looking positive—especially with how we’re performing as a team. Today again, after going behind."
